WHAT YOU CAN DO!

 

1) Get on our mailing/emailing list.

2) Come to an Ivy Out, 3rd Saturdays.

3) Go to our website, www.savesouthwoods.org.  

4) Read Richard Louv's book, Last Child in the Woods (Saving Our

    Children from Nature-Deficit Disorder), found in libraries, bookstores.

5) Take a walk through South Woods and tell friends and neighbors

     about this wonderful resource.

 

WHAT WE HAVE DONE!

 

1) Fought to keep developers out of South Woods.

2) Worked to pass the Parks Bond, (May 16, 2006) which put South Woods on the map

     as part of Shoreline's Park system.

3) Initiated Ivy Outs to control invasive species.

4) Testified in City Council, written letters to the Editor, emailed, influenced neighbors          

     and people in office.

  

WHAT WE ARE DOING!

 

1) Working with the City and with Shoreline Parks Department.

2) Enlisting Seattle Urban Nature Project to do a biological inventory of South Woods.

3) Coordinating with National Wildlife Federation to make Shoreline a Community

     Backyard Wildlife Habitat City, largest in the state of WA.

4) Considering participation in Cascade Land Conservancy's "Green Cities Partnership".

5) Promoting awareness and prevention of Nature Deficit Disorder in our children.

6) Making available lesson plans for teachers K-12.

7) Outreaching to the public.

 

OUR VISION !

 

1) To daylight and  improve stream function of Hamlin Creek.

2) To improve access to South Woods.

3) To plant native vegetation to increase and diversify the undergrowth.

4)  To explore the feasibility of park use:  a-schools & education, b-outdoor theatre,      c-unplugged music concerts, etc.

5) To install unobtrusive interpretive signage naming biological features and paths.

6) To enhance the greenbelt between Hamlin Park and South Woods.

7) To continue work to eradicate invasive species.

8) To be an ongoing advocate for the protection of South Woods.
